Flambéed Love

~Confusion~

"There we go! Isn't that better?" Minori grinned as she finished brushing all of her animals in the barn. This job can be exhausting but at the same time, extremely rewarding.

'Moo'... 'Baa'... 'Neigh'

Almost at the same time, her lovely animals each respond in their own way as gratitude. Minori loves them unconditionally and she takes great care of them; in return, they love her back - giving her the best quality of animal products that they could. It's no wonder the dairy products from Minori's farm are the freshest, the eggs are the tastiest, and her wool is the most durable - highly sought after.

Today, Minori finishes her work earlier than usual; and so she decided to grab some lunch at the restaurant..she could pamper herself once in awhile with delicious food and plus, she'll get to hang out with her friend, Raeger. And so, Minori proceeded down to the town area and made her way towards the restaurant.

...

"Welcome to the restau.. Oh, hey Minori! What's up?" Raeger gave a warm smile as usual.

"Hey, Raeger! I finished work earlier than usual so I figure I'll have lunch here. It's been awhile since I last had delicious food!!" Minori beamed and took a seat at the bar, right in front of Raeger.

Raeger chuckled, "Haha Minori, you're too kind. What would you like to have?"

"One kitsune udon please!! It would feel SO amazing to have a nice delicious soup on a windy afternoon." Minori closed her eyes and placed her palms on her cheek as she begins thinking about her imaginary food, then smiling like the happiest person on Earth.

Raeger laughed upon seeing her silly response. He has always loved seeing Minori's different reactions. Minori is amusing, unlike many other girls. Perhaps, this is what made her so easy to hang out with..Raeger thought to himself.

"I'll get right to it! Though..do you mind waiting up a bit? I'm still cooking the lasagna for Fritz. I promised him I'll cook a free meal for him today...Well, I couldn't refuse after he begged and said he was running out of food." Raeger sighed, "I wish he'd take better care of himself.. But don't tell him that I told you! Haha!" Raeger chuckled once again as he explained himself to Minori.

"Don't worry about it, Raeger! I'm free for the rest of the day anyway, so I'm not in a rush." Minori smiled. "And I promised I won't tell a soul!"

"Thanks Minori! I'll try to finish as soon as I can!" Raeger immediately returns cooking.

Deep down, Minori was amazed, 'I've always known that Raeger is a nice person..but I didn't know he's also very caring.'; From the bar, Minori can also see Raeger's work very clearly, 'Wow..he's always serious at work.. But damn, he even prohibits his good friends from entering the kitchen. He's always trying his best - improving his recipes, ensuring that his customers are satisfied...woow, he looks really cool. I like him.'

Minori then jolted in shock, 'Eh? What was I thinking about?' Minori was surprised at her own thoughts, but soon brushes it off, 'Right..it's just simple admiration! That's all!'

Just as Minori swept her thoughts away, Raeger came out of the kitchen holding two dishes; Fritz's lasagna and Minori's udon. "I'm done!!", Raeger exclaimed, then looked around the restaurant, "Hhhmm..that's weird, Fritz should already be here by now."

"Maybe something kept him busy.. but that's alright, we'll wait for him! Anyway, it would be more fun to have lunch together like usual. Raeger, you should have something for yourself too!" Minori exclaimed cheerfully.

'Minori is such a sweet girl..' but Raeger kept the thought to himself and smiled, "That sounds great! Then I'll go heat up last night's leftover."

It took only a few minutes for Raeger to finish heating up his own food; so while waiting for Fritz, the two of them continue chatting - about what they did during the weekend, their personal struggles at work, their past hobbies...

Suddenly, the front door swung open and a familiar voice was heard, "YO RAEGER, I'm finally done with workkkk.." Fritz sounds so exhausted. "I'm so hungry!! Are you done with.." Fritz stopped the moment he saw Minori - right at the bar in front of Raeger..and the two of them happily talking to each other. Again, the same kind of tension, the same jealousy, was felt within him.

"Hey, Fritz!! You're finally here. We've been waiting for you, c'mon let's have some lunch!" Minori called out.

Minori didn't notice Fritz's subtle change in expression, but Raeger, being his closest friend, immediately noticed. Thoughts raced through Raeger's mind, 'Huh? What's wrong with him? Why does he look so upset seeing Minori and I together? Wait..could it be..does Fritz..like Minori?'

While Fritz is indeed upset, he didn't want to ruin the atmosphere. He can't show his true feelings. Besides, Minori is not his girlfriend. She can hang out with whoever she wants to..and Fritz doesn't even know how she feels about him. He didn't want to ruin the friendship they had, so he tried his best to sound like his usual self, "OH WOW!! It smells so good in here.. I can't wait to dig in!!" Fritz took a seat beside Minori and Raeger placed his requested dish in front of him. "Woo-hoo! Thanks Raeger, I love you, man!"

Raeger looked at Fritz solemnly,"Eww. Don't say that. It's gross."

"AHAHAHAHA!" Minori laughed hysterically upon hearing their conversation. It's too funny! "Oh my god, you guys!! Ahaha!"

Looking at her, the two boys soon joined in Minori's hysterical laughter. The heavy atmosphere has thankfully been lifted, and the three friends are having a good time. How could they not? The secret to enjoyment is, one: delicious food, and two: great company.

Or..are they REALLY genuinely enjoying their time?

Fritz knew he can't keep pretending forever.. he can't continue faking his actions all the time.. NO, it doesn't work that way. Eventually, reality has to be faced; not redirected somewhere else. He knew that, but it was not something he was very comfortable with - perhaps it'd be so much easier being a child forever. Fritz was not the only one troubled, however, - Minori and Raeger were somehow deep in thought as well.

Ever since Minori discussed her attraction towards Raeger with the girls, she started becoming more and more conscious of her feelings towards the young chef. She was initially only captured by his looks, and nothing more - well, perhaps his cooking talent too; but as she spends more time together, Minori starts to notice that Raeger has so much more to offer. He's waay more than just a good looking chef. He's kind, he's passionate about his work, he's hard working, he's polite, and Minori just discovered that he's in fact funny too. But..is this a sensation triggered only because of the girls' teasing, or..does Minori genuinely have feelings for Raeger? She continued pondering on the very thought in between their conversation.. stealthily of course, she can't let them know she was troubled.

On the other hand, Raeger was concerned of Fritz's feeling towards Minori. 'Does Fritz really like Minori more than friends? Maybe I shouldn't be too intimate with Minori, it'll hurt Fritz's feelings if my assumptions were right.' Raeger took a deep breath, he didn't like the decision that he was going to make..but he thought..he had to - all for the sake of his best pal. 'I hope Minori doesn't take it the wrong way...but I have to keep my distance.' He glanced at his two friends quickly, then looked down to gather his own thoughts back.

That afternoon, everyone kept their own thoughts to themselves. No feelings conveyed, and no question asked, but who could blame them? - they simply did not want to make any false assumption, and they certainly did not want to ruin their treasured friendship. Anything but that.

It's tough though..when you have to pretend, when things are kept bottled up within your own heart. Is it the right decision? Perhaps now..but what about later? Nobody really knew.. the future is filled with uncertainty after all.
