Story of Seasons: Raeger Fanfiction Part 7

Writer's note: I took SO long to write the previous chapter..It was hard to describe how the misunderstanding actually arise from something simple, and how their friendship would come to be rekindled. Well..starting this chapter onwards, the story will focus more on Raeger and Minori! It's going to be exciting! :3 It's like a new beginning.

To add on, I will not include a certain in-game event to my story to avoid spoilers.

Flambéed Love

~Disclosure~

Weeks has passed since the day Minori and Fritz settled their passive dispute - the day they reconciled as friends, with help from their best pals. It was now approaching the middle of winter, where the harshest weather struck Oak Tree Town. The wind brought even the mightiest trees to its knees, and the cold could easily penetrate a human flesh exposed to it without the protection of warm clothing. On days when blizzard raided her farm, Minori's concern would escalate. 'Will my crops be all right? Is the barn enough to keep my animals warm?'

And especially during winter, it gets busier for Marian and Angela at the clinic as the number of patients rises. Minori herself was somewhat weak as a child, and even though she does feel under the weather at times, it was never terrible enough to prevent her from leaving the house.

In fact, things were going towards the right direction for Minori and the gang - her friendship with the boys was back to normal. While it does take a little bit of time to let go of the recent incident, both Minori and Fritz have made it clear in their own mind that it was something of the past; something that they should not dwell on. Raeger, upon understanding the success story of their reconciliation, has stopped placing some distance away from Minori, which he felt unusually grateful about - it annoyed him not being able to talk Minori freely. But even more than just removing that 'wall' between them, Minori and Raeger has become closer and closer each day. They were talking and joking more often, and they begun to share even more personal things about themselves. Minori was still conscious about her 'feelings' towards Raeger, but she brushed it off and decided that at most, he was just her eye candy.

After a long day at work today, Minori was starving. She was eating a lot more during winter, and sometimes she started to worry about her weight. But eating delicious food was far more important than such trivial issue. Even though she did gain some weight, Minori is perfectly under the healthy range and she still looked petite anyway. And so to 'reward' her hard work today, she decided that it was another time to treat herself with a good dinner from Raeger's restaurant.

...

"Raeeeegerr!! Good evening!" Minori exclaimed cheerfully as she swung open the entrance of the restaurant/the young chef's place of residence - yep, he lives just upstairs.

Normally, Raeger would greet Minori back warmly. But for some reason, his response today was a little bit disappointing..in fact, there was no response at all! Raeger looked down emptily while he continued wiping the shiny white plate in his hands.

Minori walked closer towards the bar so that the young chef could perhaps notice her..and maybe he'll hear her this time around. However, upon closer inspection, he somehow..looked pale. Concerned, Minori waved in front of Raeger, and asked, "Uhmm, hey Raeger. Are you alright?"

"Huh? Oh.. welcome Minori. Sorry, I'm just feeling a little.. dizzy, that's all." Raeger finally replied weakly.

Of course, Minori noticed his weak tone. She has always noticed things about him. 'Why is his voice..so weak? Wait, is he sweating?! In this cold?!'

"Raeger..you seemed pale. Are you sure you're alright? You're not sick are you?" Minori asked again.

Raeger shook his head. "No, I'm fine. I'll get over it soon." He then looked up to face Minori properly. "Anyway, what can I get you?"

Minori was not convinced..but well, if Raeger said so, she'll try to believe him. And anyway, she didn't want to be labelled off as annoying if she insisted and kept on asking him. "If you say so, Rae... Then I'll have one fried rice please!"

"Fried rice? Gotcha..give me just a minute." Raeger smiled and proceeded to cook.

...

Shortly after, Raeger returned bringing a plate of deliciously cooked food. "Here you go." He said as he placed the plate right in front of Minori, who was sitting at the bar in front of the chef - her favourite place.

But Minori's eyes widened in shock the moment she saw what was actually on that plate. 'Huh? Hold on..that's..curry rice isn't it?' She was bewildered, but she decided to stay quiet as she observed that he was sweating even more. He's normally a perfectionist at work. Is he really alright?!

However, Minori's attempt to keep her mouth shut was useless. Raeger immediately noticed his mistake. "..AH!! That's right! You ordered fried rice, not curry rice! I'm so sorry. I'll go remake it for you."

"Ah, Raeger! You don't have to.." Minori stood up to stop him. But he was not listening, and he immediately turned towards the other direction to grab some ingredients. Bad move though - the quick motion was making him even more dizzy.

Raeger placed his right palm on the kitchen wall and he catches his breath. By now, Minori became alarmed at his condition. "Raeger! You're sick!" She looked at him with concern. "Don't worry about my meal, I'll have curry rice instead today!"

"No, I'm fine. Honest. It'll only be a minute." Raeger persisted. But just before he could make any move...

"Raeger, w..wait!!" Minori interrupted. Well, at least it was enough to stop him from whatever he was about to do. She paused, thinking of what to say before finally asking, "Can I help you with anything?"

Raeger looked at Minori weakly while he was still panting, and he weakly replied, "I'm glad for the offer, Minori, but it's not right to make my customers do my work for me.."

In return, Minori looked back into his eyes deeply. She was determined to help him. "Well..don't take me as your customer today. I'm offering my help to you as a friend, Rae."

Raeger was really touched by her kindness, but he cannot accept her offer..it was really against his work ethics. He should have taken a good look at himself though..look at him perspire! "Thank you, Minori, but I'll be fine..really."

Minori was starting to get irritated at his stubbornness. But before she could give him a piece of her mind, the door swung open, bringing yet another customer this winter night. "Excuse me, I'd like to place an order." The customer spoke.

Raeger quickly turned his attention to the new customer, "..AH! Coming!" But in the process, he felt wobbly again. As he was regaining his balance, a small hand comforted him by the shoulder, and Raeger looked back to see the tiny figure still insisting to offer him some help.

"Please..let me help." Minori spoke softly.

Raeger couldn't resist anymore. He knew he was getting really sick..and besides, he couldn't refuse her when she looked at him like that. "Ugh... Okay. You're right. I'm only going to cause problems for my customer in my current state." He finally gave in. "I hope you don't mind, but I'll take you up on that offer. Could you take the front of the house?"

'Finally!' Minori thought to herself. She beamed and nodded. 'Time for some work!'

...

As the last customer was leaving the facility, Minori and Raeger bowed to express their gratitude towards the diner. "Thanks for coming!"

The customer smiled and gestured a 'thank you' as well in return. The place was cosy, the service was satisfying, and the food..well, it was 'beyond awesome!' - as many would describe. He then pulled the front door open, and took his leave out of the restaurant. In that short duration when the door was opened, the cold winter air came rushing inside the building. It left Minori shivering for a while, but for Raeger, it worsened his cold badly. The sudden drop in temperature was unpleasant for his sick body.

Still hanging on, Raeger began to express his thanks, "Whew. That was the last customer." He smiled weakly. "Thanks to you, I somehow managed to make it through closing time. I really appreciate the help."

"Don't worry, Raeger! I'm more than happy to help!" Minori exclaimed cheerfully.

The young man looked at Minori softly..yet sweetly. "I'll have to do you a big favour...sometime...in..." Raeger was resuming his appreciation towards Minori, when suddenly things started to blur out for him. His vision turned dark slowly, and the last thing he saw was Minori's panicky expression as she desperately tried to reach out to him before he would collapse to the ground.

...

Minori recalled the event that seemed to happen in a split second. She was just talking to Raeger, when he turned really pale and suddenly collapse. Luckily she caught him just in time to prevent him from diving head first into the floor tiles. His clothes was soaked in cold sweat; he was pushing himself too hard that night. What if Minori was not there?

Swiftly, she put his arm around her neck and dragged him upstairs with all her might. She laid him to rest on his bed, and waited by his side; while munching the curry rice she has 'forgotten' to eat. Her concerns has been keeping her mind busy and her hunger drifted somewhere else..that is till she finally sat down after laying him to rest, and realising that her dinner was untouched.

Minori went back upstairs after washing the dirty dishes at the kitchen, and immediately she went to check on Raeger. His breathing began to stabilise - much to her relief - and he seemed to have stop the excessive perspiration. Perhaps, all he needed was just some rest. 'He seems to be feeling better now..But I can't leave him just yet..what if something were to happen when I'm gone?' Minori told herself.

Just as she was pondering at the thought, Minori heard a soft grunt coming from the direction of his bed. "Nnngh.." The young chef moved his body around uncomfortably, and slowly tried to open his eyes.. adjusting it to the bright light shining in his room. He blinked a few times before speaking to himself, "Huh? Where am I?" and he examined his surroundings.

Minori was elated, and she sighed in relief. "Raeger! You're awake.." She spoke softly.

Raeger finally realised that he was in his own room, and the sweet voice he heard brought his attention immediately to the source. "Minori?" Raeger inquired as he tried to get up from his bed. He took a deep breath, and gently transferred himself to a chair nearby - he didn't think it was very nice of him to continue staying in bed in front of a guest.

Minori quickly approached him while bringing the warm glass of water she has prepared beforehand, and she stayed by his side.. explaining what had happened that night.

Raeger was a little bit surprised, but he didn't have the energy to express it. "Oh. I collapsed, huh?" And in his mind, questions came passing through. 'When did I collapse? Wait..did she brought me here all by herself? Ah..! First, I made her help me at work, and now this? I've troubled her so much...'

"Sorry. I hope I didn't make you worry too much." Raeger apologised for the inconvenience he has caused.

Minori squatted in front of Raeger carefully, so she could take a better look at him - and this way, he wouldn't have to hurt his neck looking up at her all the time from his seat. She chuckled, "Haha..well yeah, I was worried for a second there..but I'm glad you're okay now!"

He looked straight into her eyes, and whispered loud enough to be heard by Minori, "Did you.. stay here with me the whole time?"

Minori slowly nodded. "I don't want anything to happen to you while I'm gone.."

For the second time that night, Raeger was touched. But he does not usually express his feelings well..it was a habit of his to hide it anyway. But nevertheless, he managed to uttered a few words, "...Thank you."

And slowly, he somehow...began opening up so much to her. Has his cold left him vulnerable? He went on and on about his past..and Minori continued staying by his side and listened. It made her feel happy that perhaps..Raeger trusts her enough to be sharing something so personal. It made her feel..special.

"Come to think of it..." He began. "It's been a long time since someone stayed by my bedside when I got sick."

"See, my parents got divorced when I was really little. My mom brought me here to stay here with her dad.. But both mom and grandpa were always really busy with work, so neither of them had the time to sit with me when I was sick." Raeger continued with a flat tone..but Minori noticed the melancholy coming from him. She started to feel sympathetic for him.

"Besides, I didn't want to bother either of them, so I usually wouldn't even tell them how I was feeling." He chuckled awkwardly..and forced a little smile - not to sound to solemn in front of  Minori. But for his next sentence, his expression softened.

"So it's been forever since I had someone worried enough about me to stay by my side till I get better. It's a nice feeling." His eyes looked at her thoughtfully..and this time, his smile was genuine - he was not grinning..but rather his smile was something more like a..gentle one. And this smile.. it made Minori feel weak with bliss.

But just as she was drown into his gentle expression, Raeger halted. "...Ah! Sorry. I didn't mean to dump all that personal stuff on you. Being sick seems to have loosened my tongue too." He laughed, and he spoke normally with Minori again. "Anyway thanks for everything today I'm sorry to have been such a bother. I'll repay you to it sometime, I swear."

Minori finally replied after listening to him for a while, "Don't worry, Raeger. You don't have to..I'm happy to help." She beamed, and locked her eyes with his.

Raeger tried to hold back, but he seemed to crave for Minori's attention a little longer. It's not very often that someone was truly concerned of him - especially girls his age. Besides.. that smile, that eyes? He wanted to see them just a while longer. "Hey, um..." Raeger whispered. "Since I've already bugged you so much as it is, can I ask one more little favour?"

"Sure thing! What is it, Raeger?" Minori inquired.

Raeger looked to his side - he was too nervous to look Minori in the eyes. He brought his right arm up to his head, and nervously brushed his hair. His heart was filled with anxiety, but he took enough courage to ask her, "Could you, um...stay here with me a little longer?"

Her eyes immediately dilated in disbelief. 'Did..he..just ask me to stay with him? Am I hearing things correctly?'

"I, uh.. I'm not feeling 100% just yet." Raeger tried to explain and hid his embarrassment. "I want to rest a little before I start getting ready for tomorrow. If you could stay just that long, I'd be really appreciative."

His eyes continued to be fixed on to his side, still unable to face the young maiden in front of him..who was actually blushing herself. 'Urgh, what was I saying? She'll think that I'm a creep!' Raeger started to regret his request.

But in reality, Minori was thrilled at his request. 'Damn..he's so adorable saying that. If he continues to speak like this.. I think..I think..I'm really going to like him for real.' Her heart was beating hard in anxiety, embarrassment, but also euphoria. She couldn't deny her own feelings anymore.. she likes him - and not just as friends, but..romantically. Struggling to hide her excitement, she spoke no word, but nodded and smiled sweetly in agreement.

In return, Raeger sighed in relief and smiled. 'Ah! That's good..I would really be upset if she reacted otherwise..' He voluntarily reached out his right arm towards Minori, and unknowingly he was already caressing her hair. "...Thanks, Minori."

Story of Seasons: Raeger Fanfiction part 6

Flambéed Love

~Bonds~

Minori sat lifeless, contemplating on the events that occurred three days ago. She continues to stir her tea, yet not even a sip was drunk - leaving it cold.

'Iris and Agate were right.'

'How did this happen? I know they warned me..but I really did not expect it to be true..' Minori continues drowning in her own thoughts.

She looked down, and her eyes spoke remorse. "I....I...I've hurt his feeling, girls. I'm the worst!"

Iris and Agate can't stand the sight of Minori hurting herself. Minori won't stop blaming herself - even though there really is no one to blame for the incident. They looked at each other, wondering what they can do to cheer their bestfriend up.

Meanwhile, the events kept on repeating itself inside Minori's mind.

...

"Minori.. I have a crush on you." Fritz spoke aloud.

Minori was frozen. Her suspicion had been confirmed, yet she was unprepared to face it. How should she respond? How should she face him?

The young farmer had her mouth wide opened in shock, but she knew she had to answer him sooner or later - and the former is obviously preferred..she can't let him hang on to a false hope.

"Fritz..I.." she paused to carefully construct her next sentence, "I'm very sorry..you are very important to me, but... only as a precious friend." She looked at him with such guilt..she had no idea things would turn out this way.

Fritz's heart sank. It was the response he dreaded, but also one he was not expecting. He thought that she was going to agree to go out with him.

"Oooh..um..right..I see.." Fritz finally replied.

Minori could definitely sense his disappointment and dejection. It pained her so much to see him in that state, because he is such an important friend. But more significantly, the guilt was consuming her.

"Fritz..I'm sorry.. I should've-"

But before Minori can finish her sentence, her fellow farmer interrupted her. "Ahaha..well, I guess it's a no..but that's alright, don't think about it, Minori!!" Fritz laughed awkwardly.

"No..no! Of course I'll think about it, Fritz. I can't ignore this!" Minori shouted back in disagreement.

Fritz felt helpless, but he didn't want to show his true feelings. "Minori..don't be so serious! It's alright..we're still friends right!" He smiled bitterly.

"Oh I just remembered! I have to go and see Raeger now. Well, see you Minori, don't wanna keep him waiting!!" Fritz quickly waved Minori good bye and dashed speedily towards town.

"Fr...Fritz!! Wait!! We have to..."

But before Minori could say anything else, Fritz was already far ahead of her. Perhaps..too far to even hear a word she says; and soon after, he was no longer in sight.

Minori looked into the distance, her heart now heavy with misery.

...

"Minori...c'mon, let's eat! We're having macaroons for snacks today. It's your favourite!" Agate tried to sound cheerful for Minori.

"Uhm..yeah..sure.." Minori sounded unexcited - unlike her usual self. She would gobble down her favourite dessert at any point of the day.

By this time, the girls started to get really concerned. Iris rubbed Minori's back to comfort her and finally spoke her mind, "Minori..you should not blame yourself anymore.. you really did nothing wrong."

"But..Iris..it feels like I've been manipulating him all along.. Even though we're close friends, I should have still kept some distance between us, so that he won't get the wrong idea, right?" Minori replied in frustration.

"Minori..I know you never meant it. You would never hurt someone's feeling on purpose..especially an important friend." Iris advised.

"Of course not! I would never do that intentionally! But..I hurt him anyway.." Minori looked towards Iris miserably. "I should find him and sort things out..but it feels like he's avoiding me."

Upon hearing that, Agate offered Minori her help, "Want me to help you, Minori? Fritz and I are pretty close, you know? We're childhood friends... I'll hold him captive for you." Agate smirked.

Minori choked. "No way!! That sounds so absurd! HAHAHA!"

'Ah! She's laughing again. That's a relief..' the two girls softly smiled at each other.

"But..it's not a bad idea..this could actually work!! And besides.. I just need to talk to him." Minori started to consider Agate's offer. "Can I trouble you with the 'task', Agate?"

Agate grinned, "Of course, Minori! Of course! It would be my pleasure!"

And so..the three girls carefully planned their scheme.. and along the process, Minori started to smile again. Well..at least she's feeling better.

*Meanwhile,  at another part of Oak Tree Town a few hours later..*

...

"RAAEEGGGERRR!!! *SNIFF SNIFF*" Fritz ran towards the restaurant and flung the door open.

Raeger sighed as he wiped the utensils behind the restaurant's bar. 'Another normal day with Fritz..' he thought to himself. "What is it now, Fritz?"

Fritz didn't know how to start - he had no idea that Raeger has clearly noticed Fritz's attraction towards Minori. "Uhm..uhmm..it's a long story BUT YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO MEEE" Fritz pleaded.

"Alright..alright..tell me slowly. So what happened?" by then, Raeger still hadn't suspect a thing that something major has happened.

And so..Fritz began pouring out his feelings. He told Raeger how he developed feelings for Minori, and how he became jealous when other men are around her, how he thought Minori could've felt the same..and lastly, the events that occurred recently - how Fritz felt so devastated and eventually ran away from her.

By the time Fritz finished his story, Raeger was genuinely concerned - not just for Fritz, but for Minori as well. He cares for the both of them..and he can't bear the thought that their friendship might collapse just like that. Of course, he told Fritz how he actually had already noticed Fritz's feelings even prior to the event - which alarmed Fritz. Has he been that obvious?

"Fritz..you can't run away from her forever.." Raeger advised.

Fritz looked down at the floor. "Yes..I know..but I'm just...I can't face her, man!!"

Raeger sighed, "You're just afraid, Fritz. But you have to face it..like I said, you can't escape forever.."

Fritz grew silent. Raeger is right..but he was not ready to face anything yet.. - or at least that's what he thought.. the girls were about to get him.

"You're right..just..give me some time alright.." Fritz stood up from his seat. "Well..I better get going now..thanks for listening, Rae. You're a good friend.."

"Fritz..you sure you're alright?" Raeger asked with concern, and Fritz raised his shoulder in uncertainty. Raeger sighed yet again, "Let me know if you ever need anything okay.."

"I will.." Fritz forced a smile. "I'll see you soon, Raeger. Thanks again!" ..and with that, Fritz left the restaurant.

...

"GET HIM GIRLS!!" Agate jumped out from her hiding place the moment he saw Fritz coming out of the restaurant by himself, and held both of his hands tightly. That's right, the girls have been tailing him for a while.

"WHOAA WHOA!!" Fritz was dumbfounded with the bizarre situation that he has gotten himself into. "What the heck are you doing, Agate?!" He apparently has not noticed the other girls' presence.

"What the heck am 'I' doing?! I had to do this because YOU keep on running, Fritz!!" Agate was frustrated. "You're coming with us!"

"HUH?? Us?? Who are you talking abou- AAH!!" Fritz freezed in horror upon seeing Agate's two companions: Iris and... MINORI!!

"URGH Let me go, Agate!!" By now, Fritz started to resist harder. "LET ME GO THIS INSTANT! OR I'LL.."

"You'll what, Fritz?" Agate stared at him without blinking - her presence was similar to a murderer's aura. "If you hurt Minori..I'll chase you 'till the end of Earth.." She then tightened her grip, and smiled widely, "Now..you're coming with us right?"

"Y..yes mam.." Fritz gulped in fear. 'She's a monster'

...

As the girls - and Fritz of course - arrived at Iris' house, Iris and Agate led the troubled duo upstairs, so they can talk in private. Before moving up, however, Agate continuously threatened her childhood friend, "Don't you even dare to think of escaping!!"

...

"I'm sorry we had to drag you out this way, Fritz. I had no other choice..you're avoiding me." Minori began.

Fritz took a deep breath, "No..you don't have to apologise.. Instead, I should be the one apologising Minori. I didn't want to face reality - I'm such a coward."

Minori looked at Fritz with distressed eyes. 'No..I don't want him to feel this way..' She knew that she had to sort things out as soon as possible. "Fritz..don't say that! I don't think you're a coward..I never do!"

Fritz watched Minori as she tried to comfort him, 'She's still so nice to me even after all this. Urgh..it's making me feel really guilty.'

"Hey, Fritz.." Minori paused before she continued, "I'm sorry...I should've notice your feelings earlier. I..I shouldn't have given you the wrong idea..."

Fritz chuckled nervously and finally spoke up, "No, Minori. I was the one who selfishly thought too much. You didn't do anything wrong. Really, I never think so!"

Minori replied, "But Fritz..I've..hurt your feelings. I feel terrible for doing that!"

The room was silent for a moment. The only thing keeping them company was the sound of the smouldering flame from the fireplace - that was also keeping them warm as the cold wind sneaked through the small gaps of the window with winter approaching. Fortunately, right before the stillness would become too long and unbearable, Fritz broke the silence.

"Minori..it's true that I'm upset, but you shouldn't feel terrible for it..I brought it upon myself." Fritz smiled sweetly towards her. "Besides, I know that you'll never try to hurt my feelings on purpose."

'Ah! It's exactly like what Iris has said..maybe they're right after all' Minori thought to herself.

Fritz resumed, "Minori, I'm sorry I've been avoiding you..I shouldn't have run away like that. But I guess..I couldn't face you then.."

Minori remained silent to let Fritz carry on with what he has to say. She's all ears now.

Fritz cleared his throat, "I hope I haven't ruin our friendship, Minori..you're an important friend to me."

And Minori suddenly exclaimed, "Fritz!! Of course we're still friends!! You're an important friend to me as well!" She looked flustered.

"Ahaha, that's great to hear! Such a relief!!" Fritz grinned. "Hey, listen. Don't blame yourself anymore alright! It's nobody's fault."

Minori hesitated for a moment, but she nodded eventually. Sometimes it's hard to forgive yourself when you've already decided to carry the weight of the problem on your own..but Fritz is right.. and if she kept on blaming herself like this, she'll never be able to hang out with Fritz normally like they used to. She had to leave today with a light heart.

And so, Minori agreed to stop putting the blame on herself, and Fritz decided he would feel content enough just by having Minori by his side as his treasured friend. They spent the rest of the afternoon catching up a little bit and they talked about future plans to hang out together. The longer they converse, the weight of their shoulders became lighter.

"Shall we play with the mountain animals again some other time?" Fritz asked.

Minori chuckled and replied energetically, "Sounds like a great plan!!"

Story of Seasons: Raeger Fanfiction part 5

Writer's note: You can say I'm on a roll. I can't stop writing! Which is good I guess, because I love it! Anyway, this will be a rather bumpy chapter of their life, but also the start of something new. It might be cliché, but life is all about the ups and downs. It's not always ups nor it's always downs. But in times of 'downs', allow some room for grief - because we're still human anyway, but do get back up on your feet afterwards. With that, on to the story!

^^^Apologies, that was meant to be published last Saturday. But I had something to do over the next few days and I did not have my computer with me. In addition, I made some minor editing (applies to those of you who read the previous chapters before 16/01/2016) to the previous chapters because I was not very satisfied with it - just some changes in sentence structures and a little bit of extra descriptions, but no change in the plot whatsoever. So once again sorry for the delay, and I hope you'll enjoy this chapter!^^^

Flambéed Love

~Misunderstanding~

Recently, Fritz has started talking to Minori more frequently. He was already reaching out to Minori quite regularly before, but it became even more often – you could say, he became even more aggressive in his pursuit. Of course, Minori doesn't suspect a thing - because all along, she thought Fritz is simply a very nice person, she thought Fritz is just a close friend.

But every day, Minori is always in his mind; day and night. He felt lucky that she is in the same profession as he is – so that way, there are more opportunities for him to discuss common topics about, and he can definitely spend more time together with her.

It might sound surprising, but Fritz can be….a little bit scheming sometimes; he’d find ways to make sure that Minori spends the most time with him.. and not anyone else, especially the bachelors. He’s not taking any risk; he can’t let another man be too ‘friendly’ with Minori, it might cost him his spot!

Oh well..we can't blame him. Love can make people do ridiculous things after all.

At the same time, Raeger has taken some distance away from Minori after recently finding out about Fritz’s feelings towards her – which obviously distressed Minori sometimes. It was not too obvious, but Minori can feel it: when the three of them hangs out, Raeger always seemed to be holding back. It’s like he’s putting up a front. She wonders what’s wrong?

...

"We can't hang out today?" Minori sounds disappointed.

"I'm really sorry, Minori. I know I promised, but the deadline for my next draft got pushed, and Agate's work at the safari took longer than expected." Iris expressed her remorse.

Minori was really looking forward to meeting the girls again, but she knew that they would never cancel on her on purpose. Minori understands how busy one can be when faced with loads of work to do; Minori herself has been in their shoes multiple times.

Not wanting her friends to feel guilty anymore, Minori cheerfully re-assured them, "It's alright, I completely understand! I've been in the same situation a few times myself!” She paused to look at Iris’ unchanging expression before she continues, “We can always meet up when all of us are free, right? But we can't leave urgent matters unattended. So don't worry!"

Iris was amazed. Despite Minori’s young age, she has a mature thinking; and that caused Iris to forget their age difference sometimes. "Thank you Minori, I really appreciate your understanding. I'll inform Agate as well. I promise I'll make it up to you on our next meeting!" Iris smiled, "Well, I would have to excuse myself now. Hope to see you soon, Minori!"

"See you Iris!! Good luck!" Minori waved Iris good bye energetically and beamed widely before signalling a thumb sign.

Looking at Minori, Iris giggled. Minori is indeed mature in terms of her thinking - she's wise. But when it comes to her actions, she's simply adorable! Iris has always been so fond of her.

...

"Hhhm..I guess I'll go see the wild rabbits alone.." Minori was indeed a little bit upset, but she tried her best to cheer herself up.

On her way down towards the mountain, she saw Fritz. She wasn't expecting to see him around here!

"Hey Fritz!! What are you doing here?" Minori waved her right hand enthusiastically upon seeing her friend.

Fritz knew that voice, and as he looked towards the source and sees Minori right in front of him, his face brightened up. He quickly gestured back, "Minori! It's nice to see you here!" Fritz breeze-walked towards Minori and as soon as she was in close proximity, Fritz kindly replied her, “I was just walking around for some fresh air. What about you Minori?”

“Ah, nice! I was just about to go visit the rabbits here..they start to get really friendly if you give them some carrots regularly.” Minori giggles.

Fritz watched her so lovingly, ‘I like her smile..’; but of course, he can’t say it out loud. He needed to first make sure that Minori feels the same way. “So, who are you here with today?”

“It’s just me. I was supposed to meet the girls but you can’t help it if they’re busy right..ahaha.” Minori laughed awkwardly. It was quite obvious that Minori is still rather upset, despite her effort to remain jolly.

Meanwhile, Fritz took that as an opportunity - a chance for him to be alone with her. “Then I’ll go with you!! I love rabbits!” Fritz squealed. “C’mon!!”

Fritz quickly headed towards the rabbits, but he was careful and slow enough not to scare them away. Minori was happy to have someone as company..or she’ll be spending the afternoon alone. Minori do enjoys the solitude, but at times..she’ll hate the feeling of loneliness. And so, she really appreciates Fritz’s gesture to keep her company.

‘He’s such a nice friend!’ Minori thought. ‘I’m so lucky to have known him from the start..or else I’ll be a lonely farmer..haha’ Minori smiled and proceeded towards the rabbits as well. She genuinely appreciates Fritz’s presence.

As the two farmers playfully enjoy themselves with the wild rabbits, things start to feel more intimate. It’s bound to happen, especially when the conversations get personal and physical contact is involved. When ‘physical contact’ is mentioned, it meant those multiple brief moments when Minori’s hands accidentally touch Fritz’s during their lively engagement with their little friends. But for innocent young Fritz, it was enough to make him fluster.

“Thanks for accompanying me today, Fritz! I enjoy it!” Minori expresses her gratitude towards Fritz.

“It’s my pleasure, Minori!!” Fritz replied and paused, it took him a while to gather enough courage to articulate his next sentence, “Besides, I love spending time with you!”

And as Fritz anxiously waited for Minori’s response towards his bold declaration, Minori casually uttered, “Me too! I love spending time with you, Fritz!”, and grinned in the direction of her companion.

Well..Minori didn't say it clearly, but it was intended ‘as FRIENDS’ – something she would come to regret not saying later, even though she really means what she said at that point in time.

Consequently, Fritz was ecstatic. His excitement clearly shows in his facial expression, as it left his mouth wide open and his eyes widened in disbelief. “You do? That’s great to hear!!” At the same time, Fritz thought this might be a good time to profess his feelings towards Minori. ‘It’s now or never, Fritz..’

On the other hand, Minori was confused, “Yeah, of course. Why would I not?” She wanted to question him further as to why her statement would surprise him, but she immediately abandon the idea after realizing that it’s time for her to go back to the farm.

“Oh, no! Look at the time!” Minori expresses her concern as she looked at her watch. “I have to return to the farm, I have some work still left undone at the sewing studio..”

Recently, Minori has regularly cultivate flax and cotton to be made into fabric, particularly golden linen cloth and golden cotton cloth. She discovered it was the quickest way to earn profit, which could eventually help Oak Tree Town thrive even further.

“I'm sorry Fritz!! But I have to go back to work now! Again thank you for your time and I’ll see you around okay!” Minori quickly pack her bags and was about to rush back to her farm when Fritz grabbed her by the wrist, causing her to be surprised.

“Wa..wait!! I have something to tell you.” Fritz anxiously declared.

Minori looked at her right wrist, then fixed her gaze onto Fritz’s face. She knew something was up, and her instinct tells her that something unpleasant was about to happen. But what was bound to happen next is now inevitable. Nevertheless, Minori tried to keep her composure, “Yes Fritz? What is it?” She looked at him with concern.

Mustering all the courage he had, Fritz took a deep breath and looked deep into Minori’s eyes, “Minori..I have a crush on you.”

Flambéed Love

~Confusion~

"There we go! Isn't that better?" Minori grinned as she finished brushing all of her animals in the barn. This job can be exhausting but at the same time, extremely rewarding.

'Moo'... 'Baa'... 'Neigh'

Almost at the same time, her lovely animals each respond in their own way as gratitude. Minori loves them unconditionally and she takes great care of them; in return, they love her back - giving her the best quality of animal products that they could. It's no wonder the dairy products from Minori's farm are the freshest, the eggs are the tastiest, and her wool is the most durable - highly sought after.

Today, Minori finishes her work earlier than usual; and so she decided to grab some lunch at the restaurant..she could pamper herself once in awhile with delicious food and plus, she'll get to hang out with her friend, Raeger. And so, Minori proceeded down to the town area and made her way towards the restaurant.

...

"Welcome to the restau.. Oh, hey Minori! What's up?" Raeger gave a warm smile as usual.

"Hey, Raeger! I finished work earlier than usual so I figure I'll have lunch here. It's been awhile since I last had delicious food!!" Minori beamed and took a seat at the bar, right in front of Raeger.

Raeger chuckled, "Haha Minori, you're too kind. What would you like to have?"

"One kitsune udon please!! It would feel SO amazing to have a nice delicious soup on a windy afternoon." Minori closed her eyes and placed her palms on her cheek as she begins thinking about her imaginary food, then smiling like the happiest person on Earth.

Raeger laughed upon seeing her silly response. He has always loved seeing Minori's different reactions. Minori is amusing, unlike many other girls. Perhaps, this is what made her so easy to hang out with..Raeger thought to himself.

"I'll get right to it! Though..do you mind waiting up a bit? I'm still cooking the lasagna for Fritz. I promised him I'll cook a free meal for him today...Well, I couldn't refuse after he begged and said he was running out of food." Raeger sighed, "I wish he'd take better care of himself.. But don't tell him that I told you! Haha!" Raeger chuckled once again as he explained himself to Minori.

"Don't worry about it, Raeger! I'm free for the rest of the day anyway, so I'm not in a rush." Minori smiled. "And I promised I won't tell a soul!"

"Thanks Minori! I'll try to finish as soon as I can!" Raeger immediately returns cooking.

Deep down, Minori was amazed, 'I've always known that Raeger is a nice person..but I didn't know he's also very caring.'; From the bar, Minori can also see Raeger's work very clearly, 'Wow..he's always serious at work.. But damn, he even prohibits his good friends from entering the kitchen. He's always trying his best - improving his recipes, ensuring that his customers are satisfied...woow, he looks really cool. I like him.'

Minori then jolted in shock, 'Eh? What was I thinking about?' Minori was surprised at her own thoughts, but soon brushes it off, 'Right..it's just simple admiration! That's all!'

Just as Minori swept her thoughts away, Raeger came out of the kitchen holding two dishes; Fritz's lasagna and Minori's udon. "I'm done!!", Raeger exclaimed, then looked around the restaurant, "Hhhmm..that's weird, Fritz should already be here by now."

"Maybe something kept him busy.. but that's alright, we'll wait for him! Anyway, it would be more fun to have lunch together like usual. Raeger, you should have something for yourself too!" Minori exclaimed cheerfully.

'Minori is such a sweet girl..' but Raeger kept the thought to himself and smiled, "That sounds great! Then I'll go heat up last night's leftover."

It took only a few minutes for Raeger to finish heating up his own food; so while waiting for Fritz, the two of them continue chatting - about what they did during the weekend, their personal struggles at work, their past hobbies...

Suddenly, the front door swung open and a familiar voice was heard, "YO RAEGER, I'm finally done with workkkk.." Fritz sounds so exhausted. "I'm so hungry!! Are you done with.." Fritz stopped the moment he saw Minori - right at the bar in front of Raeger..and the two of them happily talking to each other. Again, the same kind of tension, the same jealousy, was felt within him.

"Hey, Fritz!! You're finally here. We've been waiting for you, c'mon let's have some lunch!" Minori called out.

Minori didn't notice Fritz's subtle change in expression, but Raeger, being his closest friend, immediately noticed. Thoughts raced through Raeger's mind, 'Huh? What's wrong with him? Why does he look so upset seeing Minori and I together? Wait..could it be..does Fritz..like Minori?'

While Fritz is indeed upset, he didn't want to ruin the atmosphere. He can't show his true feelings. Besides, Minori is not his girlfriend. She can hang out with whoever she wants to..and Fritz doesn't even know how she feels about him. He didn't want to ruin the friendship they had, so he tried his best to sound like his usual self, "OH WOW!! It smells so good in here.. I can't wait to dig in!!" Fritz took a seat beside Minori and Raeger placed his requested dish in front of him. "Woo-hoo! Thanks Raeger, I love you, man!"

Raeger looked at Fritz solemnly,"Eww. Don't say that. It's gross."

"AHAHAHAHA!" Minori laughed hysterically upon hearing their conversation. It's too funny! "Oh my god, you guys!! Ahaha!"

Looking at her, the two boys soon joined in Minori's hysterical laughter. The heavy atmosphere has thankfully been lifted, and the three friends are having a good time. How could they not? The secret to enjoyment is, one: delicious food, and two: great company.

Or..are they REALLY genuinely enjoying their time?

Fritz knew he can't keep pretending forever.. he can't continue faking his actions all the time.. NO, it doesn't work that way. Eventually, reality has to be faced; not redirected somewhere else. He knew that, but it was not something he was very comfortable with - perhaps it'd be so much easier being a child forever. Fritz was not the only one troubled, however, - Minori and Raeger were somehow deep in thought as well.

Ever since Minori discussed her attraction towards Raeger with the girls, she started becoming more and more conscious of her feelings towards the young chef. She was initially only captured by his looks, and nothing more - well, perhaps his cooking talent too; but as she spends more time together, Minori starts to notice that Raeger has so much more to offer. He's waay more than just a good looking chef. He's kind, he's passionate about his work, he's hard working, he's polite, and Minori just discovered that he's in fact funny too. But..is this a sensation triggered only because of the girls' teasing, or..does Minori genuinely have feelings for Raeger? She continued pondering on the very thought in between their conversation.. stealthily of course, she can't let them know she was troubled.

On the other hand, Raeger was concerned of Fritz's feeling towards Minori. 'Does Fritz really like Minori more than friends? Maybe I shouldn't be too intimate with Minori, it'll hurt Fritz's feelings if my assumptions were right.' Raeger took a deep breath, he didn't like the decision that he was going to make..but he thought..he had to - all for the sake of his best pal. 'I hope Minori doesn't take it the wrong way...but I have to keep my distance.' He glanced at his two friends quickly, then looked down to gather his own thoughts back.

That afternoon, everyone kept their own thoughts to themselves. No feelings conveyed, and no question asked, but who could blame them? - they simply did not want to make any false assumption, and they certainly did not want to ruin their treasured friendship. Anything but that.

It's tough though..when you have to pretend, when things are kept bottled up within your own heart. Is it the right decision? Perhaps now..but what about later? Nobody really knew.. the future is filled with uncertainty after all.

Flambéed Love

~Tea~

The scorching heat from summer has finally subsided and the leaves has begun to fall. The pretty autumn colours beautifully decorated Oak Tree Town, which brightened Minori’s days even more in this favourite season of hers. There’s just about two weeks left for her to capture this beauty she rarely sees in the city. But more importantly, in addition to Minori's close friendship with the boys, Minori has also gotten along well with the girls; particularly Iris and Agate.

The fact that Iris is a few years older than Minori, or the fact that Minori has only known Agate from the first day of fall doesn't matter. They enjoy each other's company. After all, the best kind of friendship is usually the unexpected one. However, because each of them is busy with their own set of work, the girls haven’t got enough chance to spend much time together. Nevertheless, they try to meet up as often as they can…

And today, the three girls have decided to meet up for tea at Iris’s place. Luckily, Mistel is not home as he just went out to look for some antiques; so the girls can talk freely. With everyone arrived, Iris brought a pot of rose tea and some cakes for everyone to share, and placed them on the dining table located at the second floor.

“So Minori, how are you adapting to Oak Tree Town?” Iris begins the conversation.

Minori cheerfully replied, “Good! Thanks for asking! I enjoy the farm life and how everyone is really friendly in this town. How are you?”

“Ah, that’s a relief! I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.” Iris gave Minori a warm smile but soon sighed in frustration, “On the other hand..I’m stuck trying to look for ideas for my new romance novel. It’s hard because I can’t find any interesting reference around.”

Almost immediately, Agate’s light brown eyes lit and she grinned, “I know!! Why don’t we share our personal stories to help Iris?”, then smirked towards Minori’s direction, “Starting with you, Minori. Any guy you’re currently interested in? Hehe..”

Minori get startled and suddenly blushes, “Wh..whaa.. what’s with that very sudden question?”

At the same time, Iris choked a little too.

Agate giggles and asks Minori, “Well I figure you’re at the age for wanting some romance in your life right? So does any of the bachelor interest you?”

At first Minori is hesitant to say, but to everyone’s surprise, she replied, “I’ll tell you if you tell me.”, and quickly tried to cover her embarrassment by sipping the rose tea that Iris has prepared. Perhaps Minori is feeling rather adventurous today.

Agate’s face brightened, “AHA! So there is one!”

“No, wait!! It’s not like I have a crush on this person….I just… find him really cute.” Minori blushes hard.

Agate shares her thought with the girls, “Hhhmm..Well now I’m really curious. I’m actually not particularly interested in anyone, but if I have no other choice but to choose one person, then I guess it will be ‘him’. But then again, I only see him like a brother." Agate paused briefly, "Oh well, if I should tell you my preferred guy, then Iris should too!!”

Iris' eyes widened in shocked and she sighed, “Oh dear…Now I’m involved too am I..”

Minori chuckles, and when Iris asks why, Minori declared, “But Iris..I guess we all know who you are interested in..I mean it’s kinda obvious isn’t it…”

Iris’s fair complexion subsequently turns pink and she quickly denied, “Hey..we’re just close!”

However, Agate seems confused, “Huh? Who are you talking about?”

Minori was shocked to hear that. “What? You mean you don’t know?!”

“Uuhhmmm…I really don’t know..” Agate pouted; she can be really clueless at times…

“C’mon..it’s obviously Klaus!!!” Minori exclaimed.

“OOOHHHH NOW IT MAKES SENSE!!” Agate clasped her hands after an imaginary light bulb has seemingly appeared right on top of Agate's head.

Iris immediately blushes hard and quickly take a sip of her tea - just like Minori - , and Agate chuckles at the sight. “Iris, you’re so cute ahahahaha!”

Iris blushes even harder, “Stop it Agate..you’re embarrassing me! Like I said..we're just friends..”

Agate, still in complete amusement and glee, uttered, “Haha alright alright..now back to the first victim, what about you Minori??”

Minori stops her laughter and blushes slightly too. “You first.”

Agate sighed and says “Fine…..I’d pick Fritz.”

One other trait that Agate has aside of being clueless is that, she is more laid-back compared to other people, and hence, her attitude is indifferent even when discussing such a delicate topic.

But Minori soon realized that both Iris and Agate has already disclosed each of their own opinion, and she now has to fulfill her own promise. Minori is pushed into a corner - and she finally whispered, “Uhm..I think R..Ra..Raeger’s really cute..” Minori looked away as she finally uttered her secret.

Iris looked at Minori with such soothing eyes, “Aww Minori you look so adorable saying that..”

Minori blushes even harder, “H..hey!! Stop it!! I’m so shyyy uwaaa!!!!” Minori then buries her face in her palms.

Agate was astonished to hear her answer, but joined in the laughter anyway, “Oooh? I was sure you would have picked Fritz as well.”

Minori peeked out from her palms before finally placing her arms in her lap again, “Eh, why is that??? Why would you think so?”

Agate leaned back towards the sofa and looked at Minori. “I mean, you guys are pretty close right? You spend a lot of time together.” Agate questioned.

Minori laughs, “Hahaha c’mon we’re just friends, you know that right! We do a lot of farm work together that’s why we spend a lot of time together as well. Besides, I’m sure he only sees me as a friend too!”

“You can’t be too sure Minori…” Iris warned her.

Minori replied casually, “Naaah! I really don’t think so..”

And so, the three girls continue their conversation while enjoying their tea and cake - but back in Minori’s mind, Iris' words were stuck on her. 'What if Fritz really....nah that can't be right... right? Things would surely be awkward if that were to be the case..and I don't what I'd do.. But for now, I don't want to think too much about it. That's right! I shouldn't be concerned over something that has not even happened yet.' Minori reassures herself constantly.

'Iris and Agate must be wrong..'

Story of Seasons: Raeger Fanfiction part 2

Writer's note: Here we are at part 2! This is where the main story begins (part 1 is just the prologue to describe how Minori first came to Oak Tree Town and met the town folks, especially Raeger). While I try to keep the story fun, there will be some light rivalry to win Minori's heart..but it won't be too dramatic! I want my readers to read this story with a gentle feeling :) Oh, just to add on, this fanfiction is based on my imagination, and not necessarily facts of "Story of Seasons".

Flambéed Love

~Feelings~

The first season passed by really quickly for Minori. She cherishes her new life in Oak Tree Town and treasures every moment of it. She is forever grateful towards the people who have accepted her into this small yet peaceful town and treats her as one of their own, just in that short period of time.

Within that short period of time, Minori has made some close friends too.

...

"Since it's really hot and dry in the summer, I'd recommend watering your crops more regularly, especially the golden crops! But of course, not too much!!"

"Aah, I see! Thanks for your advice, Fritz!  I'm new to this whole thing so I really appreciate all the help I can get!" Minori cheerfully replied.

"No worries! Call me whenever you need any help." Fritz grinned upon hearing the compliments from Minori, his new friend.

The two farmers coincidentally met at the mountain area after finishing their farm work and started discussing about their agricultural business. Because of their regular discussion, Minori and Fritz have become closer and closer as the days went on.

"So what are you up to now, Minori?" Fritz changed the topic of discussion suddenly.

"I'm just going to have my lunch somewhere..what about you?" Minori replied casually.

"Ah! Then would you like to join me and Raeger? We're having a picnic together for lunch."

Minori paused and thinks for a moment, before finally making up her mind, "Sure, that'd be great! It'll be more fun to have lunch together rather than on my own anyway!" Minori gave an energetic smile.

"Awesome! Then follow me, we'll be having our lunch over at Piedmont!" Fritz grinned yet again and gestured towards Minori to tail his path.

...

"You're finally here Fritz..I thought I'd have to wait forev...OH! Hey, Minori! I didn't realize that you came with Fritz." Raeger immediately changed his tone of voice upon seeing Minori.

Raeger might seem like an easy-going kind of guy, but he actually cares a lot about how others perceive him, especially girls he likes talking to. He doesn't want to be seen as a grumpy man.

"Hi, Raeger! Fritz invited me to have lunch together with the two of you. I hope you don't mind that I'm joining you guys..." Minori was actually excited to join the boys, but she needed to make sure that Raeger does not mind her company.

She does feel comfortable talking to Raeger, but because they are not very close yet as friends, Minori still feels the need to hold back a little bit. Considering they have different professions, it is expected that they can't and don't spend too much time together.

Fortunately, Raeger has always been a nice and polite young man. His grandfather brought him up that way. But more than that, Raeger doesn't like the sight of Minori feeling down. Hence, after noticing the anxiety and slight discomfort from Minori's voice, he wants to put her at ease.

"Of course not, Minori, you're always welcomed with us. We like having you around." Raeger fixed his gaze towards Minori and flashes a sweet smile.

And perhaps not so surprisingly, Minori has indeed started to feel better. Raeger is blessed with charm and has easily convinced Minori that she really is welcomed here.

Soon, the conversation grew and the atmosphere between the three improved. No longer do they feel awkward, and smiles grew wider that eventually turned into genuine laughter. At the same time, they could still enjoy each other's company even in complete silence; savouring their lunch in tranquility while appreciating the beauty nature has to offer.

In her heart, Minori hopes it's one friendship she can always treasure.

But as people say, you don't always get what you want. Minori doesn't suspect this, but the ambiance might not be as pleasant as she thought it was.

Every time he notices Minori and Raeger talking to each other, Fritz could feel a tension building up from within. His best friend did nothing wrong, and yet Fritz felt really annoyed by his presence. He can't explain it. He doesn't like the fact that Minori is giving her attention towards Raeger. Even Fritz himself thought it was really unreasonable; Minori doesn't have to give him her full attention..but if so..why? Why is he feeling annoyed? Why is he...jealous?

Then it strikes him.

'I have a crush on Minori, don't I?'
