Flambéed Love

~Flowers~

Minori took one last good look at herself in the mirror before leaving the house, constantly brushing her hair and fixing the new outfit she was wearing for this special night. She was dressed in a knee-length navy blue gown, complete with dark stockings and a shoulder cape to keep her warm. Although Spring is fast approaching, the air still feels chilly at night and Minori doesn't want it to ruin her plans. For the final touches, she put on a few sprays of the rose-scented perfume she received from Klaus, and the wristwatch Raeger got her for her birthday. She made sure that she had all of the necessary items packed into her bag, and eagerly head off towards town.

...

Upon arriving, Minori stood in front of the door way, and placed three firm knocks on the door. Her steps towards her destination was light, for she was elated about her plans tonight with her beloved. Raeger had asked her to spend the upcoming New Year's Eve with him, and for her to stay the night at his place - which of course, made her a little nervous. He promised to cook a nice dinner for the two of them tonight, and they had agreed to dress up formally for the upcoming occasion.

The door swung open almost immediately, revealing the chef finely dressed in a navy blue suit - that of the same shade as Minori's. His hair was slicked back effortlessly, and Minori could immediately notice the fragrance he was wearing - subtle, but very enticing. Her cheeks became noticeably rosy, not only because of the cold air her skin has been exposed to, but also because she was blushing upon seeing how attractive he looked tonight.

"Minori, you're here! Come on in!" Raeger beamed upon seeing her, and greeted her excitedly before leading her into the premises.

"Hey Raeger." Minori smiled sweetly. Her mind was still fixed onto his stunning appearance, more especially his irresistible smell. She had put more effort into dressing herself up tonight, thinking that she'd try to impress him, but what happened was the complete opposite. It was her who has completely been caught off guard, and as a result she became even more nervous than she was before.

Little did she know that he has been looking at her with complete adoration as well, constantly sneaking glimpses of her cute appearance today. By now, the restaurant was dim, empty, and the tables have all been tidied up; the only source of light came faintly from his room, where he escorted her to as they both started sharing their tales of today.

But as Minori finally took the last step of the staircase towards his room, she suddenly noticed the warm, gentle, and inviting atmosphere coming from Raeger's room that he had clearly put effort into. She involuntary stopped her words and movement, as she was left completely speechless and stunned by the beautiful setting right in front of her. The faint luminescence coming from his room turned out to be candle lights, which Raeger has carefully and strategically positioned around. Minori immediately took notice of the coffee table in front of her, for it had been especially decorated just for today. A white porcelain vase filled with roses has been placed at its center, and alongside it a bottle of wine could be spotted, with two empty wine glasses.

"Raeger.." Minori began, "It's beautiful." She uttered in amazement. "When did you do this?"

He looked at her gently, and smiled, "Just a short while before our agreed time. We don't want the candles to completely melt or burn out you know." He chuckled.

She pouted playfully at his comment, but her eyes was still fixed onto the charming radiance and she continued to be amazed at the sight. He smiled in satisfaction upon seeing her reaction, and gently took off her cape as he led her towards the couch stationed just behind the aforementioned coffee table.

"I hope you like it, Minori?" Raeger gazed into her eyes and gave a gentle smile as they both finally sat down on the couch comfortably.

She blushed with her eyes wide opened upon hearing his question, and she smiled bashfully towards the chef, "Of course I do, Rae. I wasn't expecting this at all." She paused, and continued smiling. "I really like it. Thank you for doing this."

He shifted close towards Minori, and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "I just want you to be happy, Minori." He whispered tenderly, and kissed the top of her head with so much love. "I've prepared a meal for us; you could wait here while I heat it up again?"

"Oh, I can come down with you and help!" She offered sincerely.

"No, no. Please. I insist." Raeger quickly declined. "I promised that I'd prepare our meals tonight, so just relax until I come back, okay?"

"Uhm, are you sure, Rae?"

"Yes, honey." He smiled reassuringly. His gentle expression and the way he had just called her by her pet name quickly left Minori speechless, so she had no choice but to agree with his offer.

...

He carefully held the tray of plates in his hands, and took his steps firmly up the stairs. As he arrived back in his room, he found Minori staring into an old frame by his cabinet. He smiled at her curiosity, quietly walking towards the coffee table to put his tray on top of it. The unintentional soft clanking sound from the silver tray alerted Minori of his presence, and she quickly returned to her seat to see Raeger.

"I'm sorry I distracted you." Raeger expressed.

"Oh, no no." Minori waved her hand in protest. "I'm sorry for snooping around." She replied awkwardly.

"Haha, don't be. You're free to explore my room anytime you want." He laughed at her reaction. "That photograph was of me, my mom, and my grandpa many years ago when they were still the one running this restaurant."

"Oh." She uttered her new found realisation. "That's why."

"Hhmm?" Raeger asked in confusion.

"I thought that the lady in picture looked a lot like you. So she's your mother." She smiled sweetly.

"I get that a lot. People said that I look just like my mom." He smiled gently as he recalled about his childhood.

Minori returned the gesture; she knew that at the back of her mind, she wanted to ask more some questions about his family. But she'll wait for now, and trust that Raeger will be the one to tell her his stories when he's comfortable enough.

She finally looked into the tray, and noticed two plates of spaghetti bolognese topped with some parsley leaves - her favourite. Raeger usually likes to experiment with complicated new dishes, so she was surprised to see him prepare a classic bolognese tonight, not that she minded; in fact, she was looking forward to it since she has never tried Raeger's very own version of this dish.

"Sorry it's a simple dish tonight." Raeger scratched the back of his head nervously.

"No, no, Rae. I can't wait to try this dish!" Minori exclaimed excitedly. "Although I do agree that you'd usually make something more complex..." she express her curiosity.

"Uhm, well.." he began nervously. "It's embarrassing but... uhh, never mind!!"

"What?" Minori looked at him strangely. "Is there a specific reason, Rae?"

"Well, yeah..." his cheeks turned red in embarrassment. "It may sound stupid.. but there's something I wanted to try."

"What is it?" Minori asked. "You can tell me anything you know. I won't judge."

Raeger held his breath, and finally sighed. "So you know that incredibly famous scene from Lady and The Tramp?"

"Ohh." Minori immediately realised what Raeger wanted, and blushed a little. "You want us to..."

"I thought we could try..."  he averted his gaze shyly. "It looks romantic."

She blushed hard upon seeing his expression, and sneaked a little smile for him. "Yeah that does sound romantic.. we could try." Minori was keen on the idea itself, but still, she was rather shy about it. She continued blushing, waiting for his response now.

Raeger returned the gesture, relieved that Minori did not think strangely of his idea. He proceeded to place each plate in front of them respectively, and put the tray aside. He took the wine bottle with his left hand and opened it using his right. "Some red wine for m'lady?" He raised an eyebrow and displayed the bottle to Minori, and smirked confidently.

"Ahaha stop it!" Minori laughed. "You're like Klaus!" She joked around with Raeger, truly enjoying her night with him. Raeger began pouring some wine into each of their glasses, and once he had poured enough, they both started to pick up their utensils and began eating.

"Okay, so how do we do this?" Minori asked, unsure of how they were going to be doing the Lady and The Tramp scene. "Should we each try getting some spaghetti off your plate and hope that they're somehow connected?"

"Hmm I guess that's one way to do it." Raeger replied uncertainly. "Well, here goes." He took his fork and began twirling his spaghetti, and his action was followed by Minori.

"Do you think we'll get it the first time?" Minori chuckled.

"Only one way to find out." He smiled, and the two of them began slurping their spaghetti. Of course, their first attempt was a miss, and so they kept trying again and again for a few times.

"This is harder than I thought." Minori uttered. "We never got the same strand.."

"Do you think we should try again?" She suggested.

Raeger sighed, and slowly put down his fork on his plate. "Screw it."

"Huh?" Minori uttered. But before she could ask what he meant, Raeger had already pulled her close into his arms, and gave her a long passionate kiss. Slowly, Raeger began pushing her down onto the couch, until she was now laying down facing up, and he was towering above her.

"Raeger.. w.. wait." Minori broke the kiss to gasp for some air.

"I can't wait anymore, Minori. I just want to kiss you already." He resumed his passionate kiss, occasionally stopping to speak, "Our initial plan was taking too long for me to handle."

He continued kissing her lips, then began to plant soft kisses on other parts of her: first her cheeks, then her forehead, her chin, and finally he brushed her hair aside to begin kissing her neck. With him being so close to her, he could more distinctly smell her perfume, which he really liked. Klaus might annoy him from time to time, but his skills as a perfumist is no doubt world class.

As Raeger continued to nibble onto her neck, Minori started to feel a newfound pleasure that she began to crave more and more. Her breathing became heavier, and a few soft moans began to escape her lips, driving Raeger even wilder.

But Minori noticed the time, and she knew that if they don't stop now, they won't be able to finish their meal and reach their next venue on time.

"Raeger.. we need to continue eating and leave for the New Years Eve celebration." Minori uttered with difficulty as Raeger continued pleasuring her.

"Oh yeah?" Raeger asked in between his kisses. "But I am eating, Minori." He replied casually.

"No you're not! What are you talking about?" She replied, still breathing heavily.

"I'm eating you." He replied teasingly, and looked into her eyes playfully, earning furious blush from Minori.

She struggled to reply due to her embarrassment, but she finally managed to speak up in protest, "Raeger!!" She exclaimed and placed a light punch on his chest.

Raeger chuckled in amusement, finally giving in to Minori, "Alright, alright." He kissed her one last time on her forehead and her lips, then brought himself up before helping Minori up to a sitting position. His body was in heat; he wanted to do more, to fulfill his desire, but he knew that she was right. They have looked forward to this event for a while, and it'll be such a shame to miss it just because he couldn't control himself. He'll wait and be patient for now, since they'll have plenty of time together once they come back after the end of the event anyway.

...

Raeger and Minori finally arrived at the trade depot for the New Year's Festival, and noticed that almost everyone was already there. The pair did not arrive late, but they were cutting it close with just a few minutes left before the start time.

Shortly after they arrived, Minori could hear foot steps coming from the direction behind them, and instinctively, she immediately turned to see who it was.

Those footsteps came not just from one person, but two.

Klaus and Iris had just passed the entrance towards the trade depot, arriving together for the festival, but Minori noticed something... different. Klaus was being extra close with Iris than the usual, it almost seemed.. very protective. Minori squinted her eyes slightly to observe the pair in more detail, and noticed that his hand has been supporting the small of Iris- back, and holding her hand with the other one. In the middle of this confusion, however, Minori was relieved. Iris looked so much better compared to the last time she saw her, and so Minori smiled gratefully, still looking at them.

"Everything okay, hun?" Raeger enquired when he noticed Minori staring into just one direction.

"Ah! I'm sorry about that, Rae." She immediately stopped her observation and returned her attention towards Raeger. "It's Iris... she looks so much better today.. I'm glad." She smiled sweetly.

Raeger smiled towards her with even more adoration, loving the idea of how caring Minori is towards her loved ones. "Don't apologise... I'm glad to hear that too."

"But I am still curious about what actually happened before..." Minori expressed her curiosity. "She only mentioned that she left the Starlight Gala early because she wasn't feeling too well.. and that Klaus accompanied her home to make sure she's safe. But I somehow feel like there's more to it than just that.."

"You could ask her the next time you see her in private." Raeger suggested.

"You think I should? I don't want to seem like I pry into her business way too much."

"I mean.. you guys are best friends.." Raeger explained. "I'm sure she wouldn't mind telling you. Fritz and I share about our problems sometimes too."

"You're right.. I'll go over to her place next week." Minori smiled gently. "Thanks for your advice, Rae."

"Don't mention it." He returned the gesture, and proceeded to lead her into where the main event would start.

...

A pleasant chime coming from the bell that Veronica owned as the guild master signaled the start of the celebration, and she opened the ceremony by giving an end-of-year speech to appreciate the effort of everyone in town, and to voice her wishes for Oak Tree Town for the upcoming year. With celebratory claps from all of the villagers upon the conclusion of Veronica's speech, the festival finally began. Everyone began chatting around, eating the complimentary soba from Sakura country, and some happily dancing. Minori and Raeger started with each other, but they each began mingling around with their friends. They chatted happily, went to the stalls for some light snacks and drinks, and before they knew it, it was almost time for the end-of-year countdown.

Minori began looking for Raeger among the huge crowd, and was relieved when they finally found each other before the clock strikes 12.

"Raeger! I was starting to get worried I won't be able to see you for the countdown." Minori jumped into his embrace in relief, forgetting the presence of everyone else in public.

Although he was surprised by her sudden boldness, he was happy. He wanted to spend the first second of the new year with Minori, and was glad that Minori felt the same. He tightened his embrace around her, and kissed the top of her head lovingly. The couple stayed in the same position until the countdown began, when they finally let go of their clutch to put enough distance for the two of them to look at each other.

"10!!"

Everyone began counting down the last ten seconds of the year.

"9!!"

Raeger looked into Minori in the eyes, thankful of everything that has happened this year. She made his year special; revealing so many emotions he had previously never experienced, sharing their joy and misery together. He brought his hand up to her cheek and gently caress it, earning a gentle smile from Minori.

"5!!"

The countdown had reached 5 before he even realised, but he chose to keep his gaze fixed onto Minori. There was silence between the two, but no awkwardness at all. They just continued to be engulfed in each other's presence, deep into each other's eyes.

"4!!"

The crowd grew wilder as the countdown went closer and closer to zero.

"3!!!"

Raeger slowly began closing in to Minori, tilting his face to the left and opening his lips slightly apart.

"2!!!"

Minori looked at him with a gentle expression, slowly closing her eyes and following his cue, fully aware of what he intended to do.

"1!!!"

Raeger pulled her even closer into him, with his right hand still on her left cheek, but his left on the small of her back.

"0!!!!"

The crowd cheered loudly, exclaiming "Happy New Year!" to everyone around them. Raeger kissed Minori passionately, engraving this very moment into his memory. His kiss just before during dinner time with Minori was hot, wild, and a little sloppy; but his kiss right now is gentle, loving, and slow. He let the kiss last a little bit longer, until Minori had to pull out for some air, finally breaking the kiss.

"Happy New Year, Raeger." Minori spoke gently.

"Happy New Year to you too, Minori." He looked at her lovingly. "May we have many more New Year's Festival to celebrate together." He kissed her forehead, when he noticed her subtle fatigue.

"Are you okay, honey?" Raeger asked her with concern. "You look like you could use some sleep.."

"I'm just a little tired, that's all." She beamed reassuringly.

"Let's get you home anyway?" He offered.

"Oh, but the festival won't end until another hour!" Minori replied. "Are you sure, Rae?"

"Yeah, let's tell Veronica and the others we're leaving early and we can head back to my place." He outlined his plan. "Besides, I want you all to myself for a while tonight." He winked gently.

"Okay.." she giggled. "Let's go then."

The pair let go of each other's embrace at last, but continued walking hand in hand as they carried out the agreed plan, before finally leaving the trade depot and returning home, back to Raeger's room where they'll spend the night together.

Flambéed Love

~Seeds~

Iris walked around her bedroom nervously, running through the script over and over again in her mind. Today, she wasn't like her usual calm self, but it was understandable given her circumstances. The novelist had planned something important that afternoon, but truthfully... the anticipation had become quite unbearable even for her. She needed complete privacy for this - and yes, an option was to use his place instead, but for some reason she couldn't explain, she needed the comfort of her own home today.

Looking back, there was just one problem.

Iris doesn't want Mistel to find out just yet - at least not until the issue has been resolved - and so she needed some way to get Mistel out of the house just for that afternoon until the following day. At first, she twisted her mind to find a good excuse, hoping that Mistel would somehow believe her... but Iris quickly reminded herself that her brother deserved no such treatment, and so she did what she thought seemed most reasonable at this point in time: simply tell her little brother that she needs to be alone today for a reason she will explain later.

Thankfully, Mistel, being the mature young man that he is, immediately understood the situation, and packed his bag to spend the night at Marian's - a place he frequently visited throughout his childhood. He's now under the care of the town's capable doctor, or to put it more frankly, he's currently being pestered by the eccentric pink-haired man.

Of course, so many things ran through his mind: What's happening with Iris? Why does she look so down? Will she be alright? Mistel thought. But not even once did he question her, because he knew that Iris must have her own reasons for not telling him now, and all Mistel wanted was for his sister to finally start feeling better. So with the house finally secured all to herself, Iris can now rest assured, knowing that her conversation with Klaus will be private.

Iris brought herself back to the present, and found herself staring by the window. It was the afternoon of Winter the 30th, and to Iris, it really signaled one thing: the year was coming really close to an end, and yet she still hasn't inform Klaus about her situation. Iris sighed.

She was never one who liked to leave matters unresolved, especially into the following year... but this was such a complicated issue, and it's not like she could bring it up so easily. She needed time to think, time to calm down. But with the approaching New Year's Celebration really closing in, she was prompted to have 'the talk' with Klaus, right here right now. Besides, Iris knew, that she'll have to do it sooner or later anyway... whether she likes it or not.

Iris continued looking out the window -deep in thoughts - until unknowingly the sun soon has begun to set, causing the room to develop a tinge of crimson. Her expression looked melancholic, as she remembered the times when the four of them were still together. The house used to be more lively... and certainly more full of love, until the accident took them away. Iris recalled how heartbroken she was at first, and how she promised herself to make the house still full of love, for her little brother Mistel, who was still so young at the time. She continued her train of memories, and took one single deep breath.

"Iris?"

Iris turned her head in the direction of the source - towards the staircase - upon hearing a voice she's all too familiar with.

"Klaus?" Iris called out gently. She remained calm, but was actually nervous that Klaus was finally here.

"I've let myself in as you suggested. You mentioned that there is something important you wanted to discuss?" Klaus asked as he continued taking the steps on the staircase. "Is everything alright?"

Iris looked at him worriedly, but strangely with relief as well. She was afraid of what Klaus might say in response, but she was excited thinking of the possibilities that might await. "Let's have a seat with me." Iris smiled ever so slightly and started approaching her bed, before finally sitting down on its side and motioned for Klaus to sit next to her.

Klaus began to feel that something was wrong and his face started to show a look of concern. But he kept his composure, and remained silent until he finally settled down next to Iris. Klaus kept his distance close, and started to comfort the woman he had known for more than a decade; holding her hand gently, giving it a little squeeze.

"You can tell me anything, Iris."

She turned her gaze towards him, and looked at the pair of gentle eyes that's treating her with so much love.

"I'm scared... I'm scared thinking of what you might say next, Klaus. What if this changes everything about us?" Iris questioned him anxiously.

"A change is not necessarily bad." Klaus reminded her gently. "It might even be for the better." He smiled, then paused. "Iris, I don't know what it is that you wanted to say, but... you can rest assured, that I will always stay with you no matter what."

She smiled, and felt such a sense of relief upon hearing his reassurances. Klaus has always been there for her through thick and thin, and she should believe that this time, he will do the same.

"Klaus."

"Yes?"

"You know how uhm... we've recently been spending more time together at your place, late at night?" Iris asked sheepishly. "...You know what I'm talking about."

Klaus was slightly taken aback by Iris' sudden remark, quickly realising that this was not just about Iris, but also about himself.

"Yes?" His voice shook a little, but he still kept his usual composure.

"Well, uhm.." Iris paused. "I don't know how I should put this.. but..."

"I guess.. we got.. a little careless." Iris hinted subtly.

"Ca..careless? What do y.." Klaus suddenly stopped, and his eyes widened in shock. "You don't mean to say..."

"Uhm, yeah." She blushed. "I think you might've guessed it right." Iris looked at him shyly, while Klaus was still in a state of shock.

"I'm carrying your child, Klaus."

Iris finally declared, now anxiously waiting for Klaus' reply.

The room fell silent, only greeted by the glistening yet diminishing sun ray. He closed his eyes, and although subtle, Iris could see a small frown painted on his forehead. It was a sign that he was in deep thought.. and Iris knew - she'd known him for far too long not to understand the subtleties and meanings behind his actions. But Klaus is a complicated man, and she could never guess what goes through behind his calm pretense. All she knew was that Klaus is thinking... thinking hard. She tried to be patient - and she tried hard, but she couldn't. She couldn't help but feel tense, and her heart started beating irregularly. 'Why hasn't he said anything yet?' Iris slowly closed her eyes and looked away. It was almost like what she had expected, and so her concerns grew; but she held on to his words, and a tiny voice inside her heart told her to believe him.

'I will always stay with you no matter what.'

Iris recalled, and smiled sweetly with both eyes still closed.

"How long?"

'Huh?' She made a little jump from the surprise call, and her eyes quickly opened wide, turning to face him.

"How long.. have you known?" Klaus asked in a deep, husky voice.

Her pupils grew. She was stunned at the very question, but nevertheless, she tried to answer it as naturally as she can, "Since.. a little after the middle of Winter." She answered honestly.

"And you only told me now?" He squinted his eyes slightly and faced her direction, showing his disapproval.

"I.. I didn't know what to do, or how to address it to you." Her head hung low, and her voice began to tremble. "I'm sorry, Klaus. I never meant to keep you in the dark like that. Really." She closed her eyes once again, unable to face him.

But before tears could leave her eyes, Klaus quickly but gently pulled her into his embrace, letting her rest against his chest. In return, he placed his chin on top of her, gently smelling her hair while he tightened his grip around her.

"Did you think I was going to leave you... and the baby?" He asked softly, but Iris finally broke into the tears she'd long held.

"I.. I didn't want to believe that." She stuttered from her uncontrollable breathing. "B.. but I didn't know what to do, and.. I.. I couldn't help but think of the other possibilities!!" She cried harder in his embrace.

"Iris.." Klaus kissed the top of her head. "I wish you'd tell me sooner so you didn't have to suffer with those thoughts at all. I wish... you'd tell me sooner so that we can work this out... together." Klaus began.

"Iris, you have no clue how important you are to me. You treated me equally since the beginning, and you were the only one who was there for me when I left home." Klaus spoke in a deep, low voice, and started caressing her hair. "I'm happiest when you're around, believe me, no matter how much I tease you." He chuckled.

"But, I've always told myself that I should... suppress the feelings I have for you."

Iris was shocked upon hearing his subtle confession, and she pulled away a little from his embrace to get a proper look at his face. His cheeks was rosy, but he displayed a sad smile on his face.

"Why?" She asked.

"Because I do not think that I am worthy of you, or of love at all. You know my past, you would understand."

"What? That's utter nonsense!" Iris protested. "Your past has nothing to do with that! Besides, it was never your fault, Klaus." Iris looked at him gently. "Klaus, you are worthy of love.. you should never say otherwise." Iris continued. "If anything, I thought you were too good for me.. that I was out of your league.." she spoke quietly. "Well, until the girls scolded me about it." She chuckled this time.

"Have you not seen the looks you received from those travellers around the area, Iris? They want you." Klaus replied grudgingly as he thought of those impolite looks. "Iris, you're the finest woman I've ever known.. considering how I've personally met plenty of ladies - from my customers - you can vouch my word on it." Klaus explained reluctantly, slightly looking away to avoid direct eye contact and embarassment, earning a smile from Iris.

"What I would like to say is... I was already very happy to have you by my side, Iris." He gave her a little squeeze. "As for what has been happening lately, please do not think that I was just using you. I have... really been holding myself back for all these years. Nevertheless, I'm still ashamed of myself for losing control over my own body." He frowned, disappointed in himself.

"But when you told me about the new life we've formed together." Klaus cleared his throat. "I could not help but feel incredibly happy." He smiled widely, looking into her eyes lovingly.

"Klaus..." Iris uttered. Her eyes glistened, partly from her previous tears, but mostly due to her new happiness. "Does that mean.."

"Iris, it would be an honour if you would let me raise this child together with you. Of course I'll stay by your side and give all my support."

"Oh, Klaus." Iris giggled, snuggling in his embrace. "I've been very silly to think otherwise."

He chuckled, "I'll take care of you from now on, okay. You don't have to worry anymore, I promise."

"Okay." Iris smiled gently. "But Klaus, aren't you chatty today?" She teased.

"What is that supposed to mean?" He grumbled. "I just wanted to make sure I get all of my points across and leave no misunderstanding behind." He returned to his serious self.

"I know.. I know." She giggled lightly, eventually feeling more relaxed. She leaned her back against his chest, and he placed his considerably larger hand on her stomach, gently caressing it, until a thought crossed his mind.

"Iris."

"Yes, Klaus?" She turned her view towards him.

"I know we may have gotten the order wrong, but I promise I'll properly make you mine soon." He smiled lovingly.

"What do you mean by that?" She asked.

"You'll just have to wait and find out soon." He replied almost immediately.

"Very soon." He beamed in confidence, and the pair spent the rest of the night in each other's warmth, intimately discussing the future that awaits them.

Flambéed Love

~Stars~

Minori let out a long, deep sigh as she finally returned home and closed her front door. She was working extra hard today, finishing up her work earlier than usual to make room for an event she has been anticipating tonight. She dropped her sling bag down on the wooden floor, took off her bandana, and began undressing herself. A hard day at work had covered her body in sweat, especially now that winter is almost coming to an end; and besides, she wanted to make herself look more presentable for her plans tonight - for various reasons. She looked at the time - 4:37pm - which means she still has about a little more than a  hour before she needs to be ready. 'Plenty of time!' Minori smiled to herself, and slowly entered the bathroom for a warm relaxing shower.

...

Minori lazily turned off the running taps as she finished washing off the last remaining soap of her body, and swiftly exited the shower to grab her bath towel. The warm water started dripping down her locks and down her body, and so she quickly dry herself with the said fabric, making sure she was warm enough before she stepped out of the bathroom.

Wrapped just in her white towel, she began making her way down the corridor to the other end of her house, into her small walk-in wardrobe. It was strangely not placed just beside the bathroom, which was something that Minori had always wondered, but never minded anyway. She began with her undergarments, before she started browsing through her wardrobe for the right outfit to wear. But before she could decide on anything, three firm knocks could suddenly be heard from her front door.

'Uhh who could it be?' Minori looked towards the front door with worry. It's only 5pm, and she still has an hour left before the agreed time, so no one should be here yet...

But with no answer from Minori, three more firm knocks could be heard again, coming from the same location.

'Uhhh what do I do..  I'm not dressed yet.' Minori panicked.

"Minori??" A familiar subtle voice was suddenly heard. "Are you there? Are you okay??"

"Rae.. Raeger?" Minori's eyes widened in shock, and she quickly put on a night gown to cover herself as she ran to the door and opened it, without too much thought.

"Raeger! You're here early," she looked into his eyes "is everything okay?" Minori exclaimed and panted upon seeing the chef.

The chef, upon seeing Minori, suddenly looked stunned. His pupils grew large, his cheeks grew rosy, and his heart rate went up. The sight of his sweetheart draped in a thin night gown that covers little of her almost drove him wild. He did come to her place before at night - on her birthday to be exact - but she was wearing something warmer, something less revealing. He tried so hard not to stare, but he couldn't help it - and so he kept his gaze fixed onto her.

"Raeger?" Minori called his name, growing concerned since he didn't say anything in return, but  her voice quickly brought him back to his senses.

Very suddenly, he stepped closer towards Minori, making sure that his larger build would cover her smaller body. He looked around, looked behind him, and then gently dragged Minori inside the house, quickly closing the front door - much to Minori's astonishment.

"Rae..Raeger? What's wrong" Minori asked once again.

"Minori!! What are you doing stepping out of the house like that? What if someone else sees you??"

"But I heard your voice.." Minori replied quietly. "So I knew it was you.."

"Well, but what if I came here with someone else? I don't want any other man to see you like this okay!" Raeger replied hastily, holding her arms tight at the same time.

Minori looked at him with wide eyes, incredibly surprised by what she had just heard. Quite flattered too in fact, but she didn't like hearing him raise his voice like that. "Ah.. I'm.. I'm sorry, Raeger." She began. I really didn't mean it like that.. I was just in a rush to answer you.."

Raeger, now fully realising what he had just said and how he's raised his voice to Minori, quickly apologised in return. "Mi..Minori, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you like that, I just.. I just.. I don't want any other man seeing you and even worse, try to do.. something.. bad to you. I just never want that to happen." He looked deep into her eyes, gently massaging the spot on her arms where he tightened his grip on before, waiting for her reply. "I'm sorry."

She smiled sweetly, raising her right hand to his face to caress his cheek, assuring him that everything's okay. "It's okay, Rae. I understand what you meant. Just don't raise your voice like that again, okay? I don't like it."

"I promise I'll try my best not to, honey." Raeger smiled back in return, and the two of them came closer towards each other for a warm, loving embrace - signalling an end to their tiny argument.

"Did you just call me honey, Rae?" Minori suddenly asked, looking up towards his face.

"Oh.. You're right. It just came out of my mouth." Raeger replied, the two of them still in an embrace. "Well.. umm, what do you think of that nickname then?" He asked, unsure of how she feels about it.

"I really like it." Minori beamed - assuring the chef - and tightened her hug with him.

"Yeah? I'll call you that from now on then." Raeger smiled  kissed her head, turning her cheeks rosy. "Oh what, your hair is still very wet!"

"Yeah.. And I still haven't picked out my outfit yet. I literally just came out of the shower a few minutes ago. That's why I got a lil' bit flustered when you knocked on the door." Minori explained.

"Oh, I see." Raeger began. "But still.. you know. It's.. quite unfair." He sheepishly said and turned his face away.

"Hhmm? What do you mean by that, Rae??"

"You really don't know, Minori?" Raeger asked quietly, still looking the other direction. He started to blush even harder, thinking of what to say next.

"No, I really don't."

Raeger hesitated, before quietly saying, "It's your clothes, honey. I can see... uhm, some of your skin." He tried to tell her subtly. "And it's making me.. want to do some things to you." He blushed harder.

"Oh!" Minori gasped, now blushing hard herself. "I.. I'm sorry! I'll go put something on right away!" Quickly letting herself go of his embrace, and she turned herself towards the wardrobe, intending to run into it - but was stopped before she could.

"Minori, wait!"

Raeger caught her in his arms again, this time from the back, and he hugged her waist passionately, earning yet another small gasp from Minori. He leaned in slightly, gently moving her damp hair to just one side, exposing the right side of her neck - and he kissed it for a few seconds, before letting her go.

Minori gasped from the new sensation, which tingles all over her body. It somehow left her wanting more, but she didn't know what that 'something' is. She turned towards Raeger, blushing and now speechless.

"Now we're even." Raeger smiled, gently looking at Minori's flustered face. "I'll wait for you to change and then we can start heading for the Starlight Gala?"

Still blushing, she slowly nodded her head and walked towards her wardrobe, picking out the cutest, warmest outfit she could find.

...

"Raeger, Minori, I see that you two are here early." A tall figure, accompanied by his slender partner, started approaching from afar as Raeger and Minori finally arrived at the trade depot.

"I can say the same to you, Klaus." Raeger gave a little smirk. "Iris, I hope you've been well." He greeted her politely, smiling in the direction of the novelist, and he watched his girl get very excited over seeing one of her best friend. Minori had so many questions to ask Iris - especially with how exhausted she looked again - but she decided to wait until they could be somewhere more private.

Following a few more chit-chats, the two pairs finally parted and went their own separate ways to find a nice comfortable spot for the stargazing night. Raeger and Minori found a nice little corner where they can lean on, and decided to take a seat there on its ground. Raeger then adjusted his position to be able to lean back against the wall, and then spread his legs open. "Minori, come sit here in front of me." Raeger patted the space in front of him and smiled sweetly at the farmer.

"Oh, okay!" Minori nodded and stood up once again from her seat, cleaning some dust off her dress, and walked to the space in front of Raeger and took a seat there. She adjusted herself comfortably, and now leaning back against the chef's firm chest. Her head fits right under his chin, and Raeger hugged her around her waist.

"Comfortable?" Raeger asked sweetly.

"Uhuh!" Minori replied, snuggling in his embrace.

Seeing her reaction, he smiled, and planted a kiss on top of her head. They stayed in that position until the event started, occasionally moving their limbs around to stretch. Veronica finally turned off most of the remaining few lights in Oak Tree Town to signal the start of the event, making the place almost pitch back - a perfect environment for stargazing. The villagers looked up the glittered sky and relaxed, getting awed by its beauty and appreciating their peaceful life in this small yet charming town.

As Minori continued looking at the sky and was enjoying the warmth of her loved one, she suddenly heard a rustle coming from the left side of her place, and immediately turned her attention towards the source, which Raeger noticed.

Although it was hard to see, the couple saw the same tall figure and his slender companion stood up from their seat, and quickly leaving the depot. Knowing Iris' love for stargazing, Minori couldn't help but wonder why she would leave early.

"Minori, is everything okay?" Raeger whispered, caressing her body to comfort her when he noticed her growing uneasy.

"Yeah..." Minori replied hesitantly, "I hope so.." she continued, signifying her apparent concern for her friend. 'She did mention she was sick, but it's been a while and she still looks unwell.. what if..' Minori continued her train of uneasy thoughts, until she felt Raeger's arm tightened around her and his head leaning slightly into her neck again.

"I'm here if you need to talk, okay." He comforted her with his words, even though he was unaware of the whole situation, and comforted her with his affection.

Minori smiled gently, and snuggled even deeper in his embrace, "Thanks, Rae." - before re-assuring the chef and motioning him to continue their stargaze. She didn't want to read too much into things for now, and simply wished for the best, for whatever it was. Hopefully the dazzling night sky could ease her worry, and perhaps, one of those gems in the sky could grant her just one wish - that her best friend is okay.

Flambéed Love

~Forward~

While Minori tries to hold herself back from being too intimate with Raeger in public out of consideration for the rest of the Oak Tree Town residents - and also due to her bashfulness, Raeger's constant affection towards her slowly informed the residents of their new relationship.

He would take a hike up the hills to visit Minori once in a while, bringing her favourite foods along because he knows how hard she work, sometimes at the expense of her own health. And although Raeger tends to be very serious at work, he would take a quick moment to approach Minori in her seat whenever she visits the restaurant and give her a small peck on her cheek - which would be returned only by her rosy blush.

The residents of Oak Tree Town had shown a mix of reactions upon learning about this news. And of course, the girls who frequent Raeger's establishment got really jealous at times. But Minori ignored those whispers, and quietly sipped into her favourite ice tea.

...

"Minori, you knew you have to do something about those girls!" Agate exclaimed, during the girls' usual afternoon tea meet up at Iris' place.

Minori sighed, slightly pouting as she replied, "...I just don't want to bring unnecessary drama into my life."

"But...! You can't just let them badmouth you like that!" Agate raised her voice.

"It's... fine. I'm not gonna waste my time tending to their provocation. But if they take one step further, I'll be sure to do something about it." Minori spoke calmly.

"But...!"

"She's right, Agate." Iris quickly interrupted. "We don't have to stoop so low to their level." She winked. "But of course, we'll take action if they went too far."

"Okay....." Agate replied in a slightly dejected manner, when she suddenly noticed Iris' weak expression.

"Iris? Are you alright? You don't seem too well..."

"Huh? Ah! I'm okay... I'm just feeling a little light-headed today.." Iris explained weakly. "Thanks for asking, Agate."

"Well.. if you say so.." Agate replied, but still feeling concerned. "But be sure to let us know if you still feel unwell okay?"

Minori soon nodded in agreement.

"Thank you, both of you." Iris smiled gently. "I'll be sure to do that."

"Drink something warm and sweet for now." Minori stood up from her seat and bent slightly to pour more tea into everyone's cups, then started offering the sugar cubes around, before she settled into her seat again.

She looked at everyone, then proceeded to clear her throat. "Well.. I'm sure we can all agree that we've discussed too much about... Raeger and I.. today." Minori continued the conversation sheepishly, earning a chuckle from the girls. "Enough of that, what have you girls been up to?"

Agate gulped down her tea, and leaned backwards into a more comfortable position, "Nothing much really, I've mostly been busy with the safari. We're doing some upgrades so I have to move some of the animals there..." She sighed, then turned to look at Iris.

"Oh.. Ah! I guess.. I.. I've been quite busy with my novel too.. I need to look for more ideas for my next chapter." Iris smiled, at the same time showing a tinge of frustration in her expression. But Minori sensed something amiss; with the way Iris was acting, it seemed like it was something more than just a cold. The elegant writer did not seem as calm as she usually is - despite it being a very subtle difference - and her cheeks looked slightly flushed.

"Are you sure you're ok, Iris?" Minori enquired, looking deep into Iris' gentle purple eyes. "Is something bothering you?" She continued asking, while Agate started to look at them in confusion.

Iris wrapped herself in her arms, and moved around her seat uncomfortably, soon growing uneasy. She sighed, and looked towards the girls before finally letting out a small chuckle - though somewhat forced. "I can't hide anything from you, huh?" She smiled, and the girls started to lean forward to listen.

"I.."

"Iris, wait." Minori interrupted, and all eyes soon turned towards the young farmer.

"Tell us only if you're comfortable doing it, okay?" She smiled gently, and Iris returned her sweet gesture.

"Thanks for your consideration, Minori." Iris began, "But you girls are my best friends, and I'm sure I'll feel so much better after letting it out..." She giggled.

Iris positioned herself into a more comfortable position, now regaining her usual composure - although still looking somewhat pale for some reason.

"I've.. been busy with something more than just finding my next big idea." She smiled. "I've frequently been.. meeting with someone too."

"Ooooh for your work, like a movie producer who wants to adapt your light novel to the big screen, perhaps?" Agate enquired.

"No, no.. nothing like that. Although I would be honoured if that were to ever happen one day." Iris chuckled.

"Well... I've been seeing Klaus."

"Ooh? But that's nothing new.. You meet him practically almost everyday!" Agate questioned further, slightly tilting her head in confusion, until a thought crosses her mind and she gasped, "...UNLESS!!!!"

"Yeah.. you've probably figured it out by now." Iris blushed and looked to the side to hide her embarrassment.

"You're dating him, Iris?!" Minori was surprised upon hearing the news.

"Hhmm.. well, not quite. I'm not sure what it is because he hasn't really said anything yet.." Iris expressed her concern. "But... I've been spending a few nights at his place..." She blushed, and the girls had their eyes widened in shock.

"Whoaa, Iris!" Agate exclaimed. "That's huge news! You're pretty bold, huh." She winked playfully, amused by these chain of interesting news one after the other.

"Oh, Agate... you're teasing me too much." Her cheeks grew even more rosy, and the girls followed with a giggle.

"So, Iris, how do you honestly feel about Klaus?" Minori asked.

"Well.. I've known him for so many years.. and we've gotten so close, sharing so many things together." Iris spoke gently as she filled her mind with the perfumist. "And I mean.. he's such a great man, I'm sure anyone would think so too."

"And to be honest.. it's made me feel.. somewhat insecure. I really do like him, and we're not getting any younger too.. but would I be a good fit for him..?"

"Oh, Iris... I can understand, I know how you feel." Minori replied sympathetically, "But you sh.."

"Are you kidding me?!" Agate interrupted angrily. "Iris, there literally is no one else who is a better fit for Klaus than you!!! You two are seriously made for each other, and you're equally amazing, okay? Maybe even more. So don't ever say that again!" Agate finishes her sentence, but she soon realised how she had just lost her composure when she met the eyes of two very surprised individuals, and she quickly apologised, "So..sorry! My point is, you should have more confidence in yourself, okay!"

The room fell awkwardly silent for a few seconds, making Agate even more anxious thinking if she's said too much. The unbearable silence was too much for her, and she opened her mouth to break it, "Umm..."

Iris chuckled, earning a confused look from Agate.

"Thank you, Agate. You're really making me blush..." she began, "but you're right, I should be more confident with myself. Thank you for telling me that.." she smiled sweetly, followed by Minori's smile too as she watched their friendship grow even stronger. Agate returned the gesture, relieved to see Iris' gentle reply and reaction to her train of.. somewhat aggressive words.

"You have to tell him what kind of relationship you want to have with him, Iris." Minori gently reminded her.

"I will." Iris replied confidently and smiled once again, "I'll be sure to be firm about it too. I'm not giving him to anyone else." and she let out a sigh of relief.

As the sun began setting, the girls quickly gulped down their last couple sips of tea and packed up their belongings to return home, finishing their now-regular tea time.

The novelist waved her friends good bye at her front door cheerfully, oblivious to something else more urgent to be discussed with her beloved Klaus.
